Social Workers are regulated by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. In Ontario, Social Workers are one of six mental health professionals that can conduct psychotherapy by law, in accordance with the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. These standards include a post-graduate degree or certification in psychotherapy, two to three years of supervised practice in psychotherapy and ongoing yearly training to ensure clinical competency.
